More than any other initiative in Prime Minister Stephen Harper's 2012 budget, the one that struck a chord with Canadians is $8-million for the Canada Revenue Agency to require greater transparency from non-profits with regards to their political activity and foreign funding. An found that 80 percent of Canadians support Harper's direction. That's high. In comparison, only 71 percent agree with allowing more duty-free goods to be brought across the border and only 68 percent agree to get rid of the penny. These results are from an online survey of a representative national sample of 1,060 Canadian adults who are Angus Reid Forum panelists. The data were collected from March 30 to April 2, 2012. The margin of error is 3 percent, 19 times out of 20.
