Hi Vivian,
There may be different American business groups trying to lobby against Canadian oil sands. I would not be surprised to find links between environmental groups and solar/wind business. However, for the Northern Gateway proposal, it makes sense for Americans to stop competition for currently land-locked oil. One way of separating out any American business interests for cheap oil and general environmental lobbying is to see which groups lobby against both Keystone XL and NG. For Americans wanting cheap oil, they would only lobby against NG. For those groups that (rightly or wrongly) believe that oil sand energy is bad, an effort to lobby in both instances makes sense.

The same is going on in Williams lake BC .
The Prosperity mine is on hold because of the Natives protest against the destruction of Fish lake.
Funny how, a lake no one fish including natives, become a world renowned fly fishing lake over night and an sacred burial ground. The Friends of Nehemiah valley, 4 lawyers from Victoria, are at the forefront of this attack against the mine. On their web site one of their sponsor is "The Tides Foundation".
We tried to expose them by commenting in our local paper but that came to an end very fast since David Williams from the FONV was going to sue the Williams lake tribune if they did not apologized for comments made in the tribune in regard to David W and the FONV by some commentators.
