Over the past ten years, the David Suzuki Foundation has published a series of press releases and web-pages about salmon farming and in particular, about research on contaminants in farmed salmon, and sea lice. This series of press releases has led to a lot of bad press about salmon farming.
To my surprise, I discovered a few months ago that most of these press releases have now been quietly removed from the web-site of the David Suzuki Foundation. My question is why? What promoted the David Suzuki Foundation to remove these press releases? And why were they removed when they were removed?
Internet archives show that every single one of these 23 press releases and web-pages, were removed shortly after I sent a letter to David Suzuki in which I pointed out inaccuracies, falsehoods and selective information in the foundation's literature about farmed salmon and salmon farming. I also inquired about whether the David Suzuki Foundation had deliberately manufactured controversy over salmon farming as part of a well-funded, sophisticated "antifarming campaign" to sway market share away from farmed salmon and towards Alaskan "wild" salmon. I have been trying to raise this question with Dr. Suzuki in a series of open letters that I have been sending to him since May of 2007.
On February 3, 2010, I sent an open letter to David Suzuki and posted it at the blog that I had at the time, called Fish Farm Fuss. That very same day, 16 press releases & web-pages about salmon farming were registered for the last time in the internet archives of the Way Back Machine. This suggests to me that this material was removed by the David Suzuki Foundation on the same day that I sent my letter to David Suzuki. Most of these web-pages were last registered around 5 pm or 6 pm on Feb. 3. A few were last registered between 8 pm and 9 pm.
This also happened in 2009. On April 9, 2009, I also sent a letter to David Suzuki about PCBs in farmed salmon. Several weeks later, on May 2, 2009, five press releases about research on PCBs in farmed salmon, were registered in internet archives for the last time.
On July 29, 2009, I also sent a letter to David Suzuki. Days letter, on August 2, 2009, another press release about sea lice was registered for the last time.
Below, here are links to internet archives which show the date and time when these press releases and web-pages were last registered at the web-site of the David Suzuki Foundation. NOTE: These links may be very slow to load because they access removed web-pages that are in the archives of the Way Back Machine.
